To all
One of the 1/2 doors on my wrangler always locks and can't be opened unless unlocked with the key. Unlock the door, open it, shut it, and it locks again. And, it must be unlocked with the key, the door lock button/switch will not work.
Im guessing that it is probably an easy adjustment inside the door to remedy this problem. Before I poke around inside, can anyone help? :p

Locks? They probably went bad because for lack of use. he he. sounds like the lock is not connected to the button, and it is just springing back to the locked possition. good luck, it should not be too bad.-al

Bracket Setup

Not sure why Jeep ever put locks in a half door. What a dichotomy. I mean, if a thief wants to get in you jeep, I believe that a knife is the easiest method.

<stepping off the soapbox> Yeah, there's a problem with the locking mechanism inside the door. That plastic panel is easy enough to remove. Just take it off, piece at a time, and in order, and find the problem. If I had to guess, the long wire bar that runs from the door lock to the latch might me loose or disconnected. Do you hear anything rattle when you open the door and swing it back-forth vigorously. Probably something loose. Shouldn't take a mechanic (muchless the dealer) to fix this problem. Crack her open and have a look.

GM performance enthuseists, did you hear?

I never understood why they put in locks on the 1/2 doors either. But there they are and locking me out they do. Its just a pain in the **S to have to use the key to open that door (for my wife - not really for me, but she is the boss...).

Thanks to all for the advice. I will pull the panel off and have a look.
