RE: CV driveshafts

I have a 2000 Cherokee sport, I-6. We took a trip a few weeks ago out to Central Oregon, and did a lot of driving through the dirt and stuff like that. Really dusty. Afterwards when I got home, I noticed tht the Jeep was acting like it just couldn't breathe. Working harder than normal. I changed out the air filter (it was full of red dust) and it got a little better, and seemed to be breathing ok. Then a few days later again it went right back to working pretty hard. Sometimes it takes a bit for it to crank over, where just a few short weeks ago it was running almost perfectly. It's only got 60K miles on it, and everything looks like it's in good shape. I have no ideas here. Anybody out there have any?

Re: RE: Diff fluid with a Detoroit locker?

Is it cutting out at all...or just feeling like it has less power than usual?

RE: 4wd won

if your air filter looked like that, imagine what your OIL looks like! change it!

I was worried that it may have been something with the transmission, but that seems to be just fine. It just seems to take a bit more to go right now. I'll give the oil a change and see if that helps out.

RE: workin

It doesn't cut out, but every once in a while when starting, it almost seems to not want to. That was what started me worrying about it in the first place. I like it when it starts everyday...

RE: Will this work?

Could be a clogged catalytic converter, especially if particles went through the intake and into the exhaust. If you can determine the converter is bad the dealership should replace it for free under the Fed. Emissions Warranty of 80K/8yr. Should be able to test it with an IR thermometer.

RE: workin

I haven't looked at the fuel filter on this thing yet, I had thought about it, but had heard that it was kind of a bear to change out. How much do you have to disassemble to deal with it? And I have never used an IR thermometer, so how much would something like that run the old wallet?

Doing a bunch of work today out in the rain. I'll let you know if anything helps. Hopefully, since it's raining...
There's got to be mud somewhere now.

So I changed the oil and everything, and it seemed to fix the problem, but then after a little driving, it came back a bit and still feels like it's putting too much effort into it. I was going to try the fuel filter, but I can't find what kind to use. All of the part books at the stores say that it's not serviceable without disassembly. Is it really a pain, or something that's not too big of a deal to work on?

Wiring question/problem

i'm pretty sure you have to remove the gas tank to get to the fuel filter... so it would sorta be a pain. i don't think thats your problem anyways though. check the cat out and maybe even replace some spark plugs or something simple like that.
