Winter coat for my transmission ?

We just had our first major cold night here in Philly, about -4.When I went out to get my morning coffee, I found that the clutch was VERY stiff, and the shifter (5 speed) felt like it was under water. Once it warmed up, everything was fine. I was wondering if this was normal, and if there was anyway to keep this from happening. Any answers ?

yeah dude... i went to start my jeep this morning and it was really slow to start turning... the temperature was 10 degrees when this happened... VERY COLD!

what would make a better winter coat for the jeeps? fur or down?[addsig]

Synthetic gear oil helps some, as does synthetic motor oil. Where I live, the motor oil gets as thick as honey on occasion and the gear oil gets like grease. Doesn´t make any sense, to change to lighter oils for just a few weeks a year. Liquid moly seemed to help my shifts a little (and helped quiet things down).[addsig]

Kind of like shifting in slow motion. I also somehow lost pressure in my clutch. I am hopeing it is not the slave or master cylender but it is gone. Cant get it into gear! guess will get into the warm and let it warm up a bit so my fingers wont freeze to it, hehehehe I am going to get all new fluids for my transmission transfer and differentials later this week. I played in the mud and water a bit much lately so I need to check for water in everything!

My transmission old AX5 was always stiff on cold winter mornings, but then again every 5 speed i've ever driven is stiff in the cold at first start.[addsig]

Yup... we got into the negatives the past few days... My transmission gets the slo-mo deal... After the fluid warms up, its all fine... When matter gets cold... it usually loses volume... and pressure as well... so Tug.. there is your problem there... once the hydraulic fluid warms up a bit... it should usually work fine.[addsig]

Yeah, -10 last nite when i went out, Jeep didn't like it too much. But after a few miles all was good, the shifter acted like it was in honey.... Don't really know how to prevent it, just let the Jeep warm up a little before you go anywhere, that helps a little. [addsig]
