Will 3" lift shocks fit in a stock Jeep Cherokee?

Hi, I have a 1987 cherokee chief that is in dire need of new shocks. I am planning on putting in a suspension lift eventually so I thought that I might buy the shocks for this while I'm at it. I figure I'll get the Rancho RS5000 that are on sale at crappy tire this week. According to the racho parts list the shocks for the rear are the same for stock or 3" lift but the part # for the front ones is different.

Would there be any harm in buying the shocks for a 3" lift even thought I haven't lifted the jeep yet?

FYI rancho lists RS5128 for front stock and RS5239 for front with 3" lift. RS5129 is the same for rear stock or lift.

Thanks

they'll work, you just wont use them to full potential...[addsig]

You should be fine, just be careful when you hit a bump and the shocks compress in the front, this could break a shock mount or the shock if there isn't enough compression travel.

Don't get the RS5000, it's a gas charged shock that will ride stiff. Get a hydraulic shock and your kidneys will thank you  [addsig]
