Hey guys, i have 97 TJ. just recently started hearing a whistling sound from the engine. almost like a radio whistle but not. don't think it is the belt or pulley. also what is the cannister on the left side with the little pump.

I just had the same issue about two weeks ago. Sounded like the belt. It was my driveshaft u joints. Dry as a bone. You'll have to disconnect them and lube them. U might need a needle fitting for a grease gun. Mine was whistling for a day or two before I took care of it. Take care of it now before you break something

Check around the throttle body and intake for leaks. You could use TB cleaner to spray around these areas slowly while listening for the idle to change.

He needs to take it off road over some rocks and logs. Then see if the condition persists. The whistling is likely a sign of boredom with flat surfaces.
