Im heading to the local pick-ur-part and one of the many things Im looking for are seats for my YJ. Id like to find something more comfy, that has side bolsters and can recline maybe even heaters..

Does anyone know what fits what doesnt, so I have a head start..?
I know I can always measure.. but you know... :)

Thanks guys!

1978-1994 Mustang seats
I have heard that Saturns do too but I am not sure

RE: Re: RE: A not so satisfied user

I have heard mustang seats fit too. But for a YJ I think you should try to fit some Cadillac seats in there :)

RE: Winches

If you have a center consol, watch the width. I have a 10" tuffy and can't get some of those fancy racey seats to fit.(too wide)

RE: TODAY IS JUMPPR

do the mustang seats mount right on to my bracketry?

will i be able to use that seat "flip forward" option to let people in the back?

You are welcome, LV.

A unsolicited tip for all: Whichever replacement seats one might select and install in a SWB Jeep, watch out for the reduction of open space between the seat bottom and the bottom of the steering wheel -- especially if one selects seats with thickly side-bolstered bottoms.

I replaced the original Bubbacon seats with "Bestop" replacement seats. Great seats for the price, but the thicker than Jeep OEM seat bottoms and heavily bolstered seat sides do make entry and egress difficult.

And...

Please don't post pictures in the future of your Jeep with newly installed Baby Breath Pink Velour Mustang seats.

That is somehow just .... wrong. Perverted, if you ask me.

I don't want to see it.

I am too old for that.

Don't do it.

'Cause I said so.

Gadget

I was at the junyard friday, scored a 3.8L ford fan, an old York 210R compressor, and looked around for seats. my YJ measured roughly 15x15" and thats what I looked for.

Mustang, yes they will fit, and thaks to gadget for noticing the thickness of the seats...

They were at least 1.5" closer to the bottom of the wheel, I like my wheel tilted low.. so I will check for others.

For those who dont mind that... They were comfortable, I sat in a junked halved (literally) 90 mustang GT and they were nice, but they were cloth. No NO. My lazy bum needs vinyl, since I regularly leave/drive it in the rain.

I tell you, Mercedes seats would be sweet SO COMFY!! -if they fit! too wide.

Old 80's Jaguar seats looked like they fit with minor mods, i didnt crawl in there and measure precisly.. but the width seemd alright. They were leather and had some ugly arse color scheme. But you can always paint them.

So Im still looking, lucky for me I enjoy Junkyards, so I dont mind spending a day looking at junked cars.

Ill keep you posted on what fits, Im heading back in a week or so...

99% of the seats you find will require some mounting bracket mods, and most of them will sit too high with the factory brackets. Getting them to bolt in is easy, it's getting them at a comfortable position that gives me trouble.

I like Honda seats for an easy little project. Some tabs welded in the right place are enough to join them to the factory brackets, and they have very short bottom cushions. Lots of small import cars have nice leather seats. Sports cars usually have awesome seats for a Jeep, and they are generally low profile. It would be better to just find seats you like and plan on some fab work to mount them, than to settle on something you don't like just because they were easy to bolt in.

Lots of the catalog seats sit way too high. Pay close attention to the design if you end up ordering some. The nicer ones seem to suck the most in this regard.

I had the back bench seat out of an 89 Astro van mounted in the front of a 81 CJ7 that I had......yeah, it looked about as cool as it sounds, but it was comfortable
