I have a jeep yj 92 stock

The transmission is bolted to the skid plate by a stud.

This is is the stud. I have this on order, but I want to go wheeling in a few days- before it will be here.

I've been thinking about the purpose of this stud, and I'm wondering if wheeling could torque the transmission too much without that stud holding it down...

would you go wheeling without it?

or can you explain this piece's purpose?

I wouldnt do it.but if ya do,let us know what happened.

where on the transmission is this stud located? I would assume you are correct that you could damage something wheeling without it if it is near the T/C coupler.

Unfortunately I'm not an expert on my jeep yet. It's at the lowest point of the transmission though. The point almost touching (and connected to) the skid plate

Nor am I, I was looking at the potential areas for mounting and the expected/possible stress levels created by wheeling? Front of transmission, rear, center? It almost appears from the picture to be a centering pin or something similar, but I have no idea, Might be better to play it safe and not do any serious damage.

I do not have the torque stud on my jeep (stabilizer stud) it fell off a long time ago. I think you understand it's point, reduces roational torque in the drive train. It's there basically because the motor is supported at two points and the transmission is only supported at one point (in the center) and still have the weight and rotational torque being generated at the t-case, so jeep installed these to add some rigidity to the drivetrain. I would not worry about it.
