Transfer case switched from dana 20 to dana 300 in 1980... the switch in t-cases also caused jeep to start using different transmissions such as sr-4, t-176, t-4 and t-5 instead of the earlier 3 speeds and t-18 four speed.
In 81 (i think), jeep started using wide-track axles for increased stability... that's all I can think of at the moment.
