what transmission?

how can i tell what transmission is in my 89 yj.the asian or the peugot. both use the same clutch but have different bearing. going to replace the clutch this weekend , want to order the right package.thanks odax..... [addsig]

I think the peugot splits down the middle. I know that there are pics in 4wd/Quaduatrac. Hope it's not the peugot, I've been down that road. ;-) [addsig]

If you have the 4banger 2.5L engine, it's the Aisin/Warner AX-5. If you have the 4.2L 6cyl. engine, it's the Peugeot BA10/5 if the transmission has left and right halves of the transmission bolted together. It's an Aisin/Warner AX15 if it has front and rear transmission sections bolted to an aluminum intermediate plate.

The BA10/5 case's seam run front to back, while the seam on the AX15 run side to side.

ok. i have a 89 yj 4.2 . manufacture date of 5/89 . the transmission does not split in half. i think it is the ax 15. at leastthat is what i ordered parts for . the only difference in the kit is the bearing. i have taken a picture of it and brought it in and compared it . still wasnot sure. i am sure it wont split down the middle , that is with the seam on top and bottom. you would think the 30 steps from the shop to the house i could remeber what i just looked at . BUT, it is not that easy for me. thanks bounty. i think i orderd the right peace, i will be sure only when i try to install the new bearing. thanks guys......odax [addsig]
