Well,Im reading things about turbo 400 transmissions and T-4 and T-5s.Which one should I look for, which one to avoid???Most of the Cj7's have stock dana 20 in the rear and dana 35 up front. Is this a good thing.Supossedly the dana 20 with a solid shaft is stonger than a dana 44???I just dont know, thanks for all your help. Sully[addsig]

the turbo 400 isnt a bad transmission at all, it is more the tcase that goes behine it that is said to be weak, but some sources say that it really isnt that bad it maitnatine properly.... the t-4 and 5 are not good, but the sr4 is total sheiot, if you are getting a 80+ yr look for a t-176 for a man. and a tf999 for auto, if 79 or later look for a t18 for man, and the only choice for the auto is the turbo400[addsig]

actually.... it is an AMC20 rear, and a dana35 front. As far as transmission's go, the t-5 is a decent transmission. i personally prefer the 5 speed over the 4, but if you get a 4-speed you'll definetly want the T-176, it's a good one. However you could look at a switch..... such as an AX-15 from a TJ. if you put that on the stock Dana300 transfer case it's a sweet deal. All you'd need is an adaptor from advance or novak adaptors (got mine from advanced for $179) and your good to go.[addsig]

ok.... we need to clear this up, it not a big deal but i just bugs me.... dana 35 are in the rear of all YJs and some TJs, they have NEVER been in the front of ANY jeep, all most all universal jeeps have dana 30 front ends[addsig]
