Ways to get a higher idle?

I'm wondering how I would get my jeep to idle at a higher rpm when I want to, mabye hooked up to a switch or something. I'm installing my York compressor as soon as I get my mounting brackets and tank and they say it puts out the most air at something like 1300 rpm. I'd like to set my jeep up so I can get it to idle at a higher rpm without me having to sit in it holding down the gas. Anyone know how I can do this? I was thinking of a seperate hand throttle that I could lock down but a switch of some sort would be much nicer to have.

There is a company that makes a switch that hooks to the jeeps computer to control the idle manually, something like $200. I'll post if I come across it.

I used a $7 bike shifter on my shift lever.

a fast idle solionid ( spelling) off a late model buick or chevy.. just add 12v and it pushes on the linkage..

Yup Thumb throttle is the best way for the money. You will be able to keep your stock idle and adjust it to suite you likeing as needed to just about a full range of the throttle leveles. here is a link to make it ez tug

cables are grand.... the thumb throttle is a great investment... until you get that... you can always rig the throttle open with anything on the throttle body

When I disconnected the Idle Air Control motor wire harness, the idle hovered around around 1300 or so. Maybe try wiring a switch into the hot wire (though I don't know what kind of error codes that could pull)

When My IAC motor went, I got a idle of almost 2500 rpm's a bit on the high side.
I use a bronco manual choke cable.

Hi,

First, IMO, it is NOT a good thing to be disconnecting the Idle Air Control Motor while the engine is running. As stated before, doing so can and usually will cause the engine to race up to between 2500 - 300 RPMs. This is because the computer looses control of the idle and reverts to a failsafe preset. Also you could cause spikes in the line which are bad for the computer.

Instead I have a solution, but it will only work if you have factory A/C. Most A/C systems have an "A/C Request signal" wire which goes back to the Computer. Under normal A/C operation, this wire is energized with 12 volts. Doing so tells the computer that the A/C is running and the idle is increased by several hundred RPMs. There is a good chance that you'll notice a higher RPM increase since I doubt an air compressor puts as big of a mechanical load on the engine as the A/C compressor normally would. So you could hook a switch up to send 12 volts to this computer input when ever you want.

You think I have this wire or plug even if I don't have a/c? This would be perfect because I could just splice the power wire to my switch for the York into this a/c wire.

Hi,

If you didn't have A/C from the factory, it may or may not be there. It seems as though Jeep usually will include a wiring harness even if it isn't being used (due to an optional component that isn't in a particular Jeep, but is in others)

I don't know where on your Jeep it would exactly be, though. You need to find some decent schematics for the A/C system to see what color it would be.

It would be coming straight from the A/C selection switch, though, as the A/C compressor clutch relay is activated through the Computer ONLY after the computer has received this signal.

It's there, it will be right near the AC mounting bracket. IMO I would go with a thumb throttle though, it will allow you to fine tune the exact rpm's that you want, it is pretty easy to install, cheap (mine was less than $5) plus when on the highway, pull that sucker out a little and I have cruise control!!
