Wagoneer 4wd?

Hi there, I've got an '88 Grand Wagoneer and I'm not sure if I should be driving around on dry roads with it in 4wd or not. It has a switch to switch inbetween 2wd and 4wd. When it is switched to 4wd, is it full time or part time 4wd?
Also, there is a lever under the driver's seat to put it into low range. When it is in low range, do either of the differentials lock?

Thanks,
Sam

The transfercase locks front to back in low range. The tcase can run in 4 hi, even on dry pavement as long as the 2wd to 4wd switch is on the dash. If it's all-in-one on the floor shifter, then it's NP208 which was an option '80 to '88. (80-82 could be NP219 which has just the floor shifter, but it's always in 4x4) The 208 is locked between the front and back in 4x4.
'83 to '91's other options are NP229 and NP228 (which was only '86ish but externally the same as the NP229)

The differentials don't locking with the tcase shifter (unless modified by a previous owner), but the vacuum lines to the front axle engage/disengage one axle in it ('83 to '86 NP229/ some 228s)
