Voltage regulator

Noticed today that the amp gauge on my 04 jeep grand cherokee was jumping around. It used to run on 14 volts and now its going under and over 14
I put my meter on it and it was showing 14.25 volts.
Is that a normal reading or too high.
Thinking the voltage regulator may be out.

That's about normal. 15v is max. But if it's jumping around could be reg or diode. Check all you connections and grounds at alt and batt.

I wouldn't unless it's proven faulty. Check your connections. Very seldom will ECM fail it just turns the windings on and off as needed. I would stray more towards a diode in the alternator or a connection.
