Where are the vin numbers located on a '68CJ-5? Found a tag under the hood with some numbers but the numbers have no letters in them, I thought all vin I.D's had a couple of letters in them. Is there anthor place they could be on this model. How many digits will it have?

they only made the vin longer recently. the old vin codes didn;t have letters and numbers in them so that might really be yours. google vin codes or check it on wikipedia and you can see when th actual change year was

Don't know if you have an iPhone or not, but there is an app called Vintage Vin that can give you the info on older vehicles. I tried it on my 77 CJ7 and it was right on the info the original owner gave me.

If I recall, for that year there should be a rectangular aluminum data plate on the firewall, above the steering column that says "Kaiser Aluminum Products" or something like that. Check that for the VIN (which may not have any letters in it). Also look on the driver's side rear fender well (inside the Jeep, on the slope of the fender well, right behind the driver's seat). I've seen them there too but those might have only been on Willys, not Kaiser Jeeps. Best of luck - John
