vibration and tire wear

i noticed a pulsing vibration a few weeks ago that seems the faster i got the quicker the vibration. i can feel it up to about 15 mph. then i cant feel it. i noticed that my tread on the front driver side is chopping on the outside (one high tread then one low tread). could this be the cause of my vibration? i am planning on getting new tires before the snow flies, so i would like to get that problem solved too. i was told that it is either out of alignment or bad shocks. there are 60000 miles on it. so i am prolly i need of shocks. i was looking at rancho rs5000? shocks. thanks.

Uneven tire wear can cause vibes, so can tires that are not properly balanced. I had some vibes in the front end once, ended up being a bad u joint. But I would get everything balanced and aligned after u get new meats. That should take care of your problem.

Tire Balance, Warped Rim, Alignment, Tire wear, etc etc, TRUST me MANY things cause a vibration on TJ's I have researched them ALL.

Way to check your alignment for free, Tape measure. Get a buddy and measure front mold lines then rear mold line.

There is a Mold line that is center of the Tread on your tires. make sure your tape is level and measure from tire to tire on the front then on the rear of the tires. The Rear should be 1/8" wider than the front. Make sure the Jeep is on the ground when you do the adjustment. Then after you have it pretty well set, Roll the jeep forward about 6 feet then back. Start over and check it again. After that not even an alignment shop will adjust it for you. They will say it is fine.



:::edit::: Check on Dosch tech or BDS shocks. I have the BDS and they ride better than Factory.

The feathered tread will cause that slight vibration you feel, and you should be able to hear the tires more.

Check out Doetsch-Tech 3000's when shopping for new shocks, your kidneys will thank you :lol:

the feathered tread is caused most likely by your jeep not the tires.. have the alignment checked, also a bad all joint could cause that.
