Vent stuck in defrost position

Before I get into what everyone tells me is the worst fix in the world to attempt, is there any possiblity there's a simpler fix than pulling the vacuum accuated doo dad that controls the venting system.

Right now, the air is stuck exiting in the defrost dashboard vent ONLY. It's 105 degrees down here and I need that AC coming out the main vents. Heeeellllpppp! I'm meltinggggggg..... :(

I had that happen to my TJ and all it was that a little hose came off the vaccum underneth the dash. It was easy to get to on mine but not sure about the cherokee.

heres an informative website for newbie jeep owners

Mingez,
Mine was that way when I bought it off of the car lot. I found a tiny pink colored rubber hose with a worn spot in it just under the overflow tank coming out of the firewall. This was AFTER I had torn out the heater/AC control head and found no problems...

Vacuum leaks can be a bbbbiiiiiioooccchhhhhh to find sometimes.

I never even replaced the whole line, I just cut out the bad part and slipped another patch peice up over the two ends that fit snuggly over and made a seal.

It will all be worth it when you hold your face down in front of that center vent and let that 40 degree air hit you.....uuuummmmmm air conditioning.

I had this same problem on my 2000 jeep grand cherokee lerado, their is a small hose on the right side of the engineabout 1 foot down, i had came off , all i had to do was put it back on and tighten it..

RE: "Dune Fest"-Winchester Bay, OR.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna get to this when I have more time. Justin, Right had "Facing" the engine I assume...right?

90, I'll check that out first.

Thanks guys!

Found the vacuum leak guys. I searched for about a half an hour only to find it was the cap at the end of the hose when I moved my vacuum canister during the bumper install. (You know, the weird reservoir shaped like a giant tylenol)

Anyway, the hose was left hand facing the engine beneath the Coolant reservoir and runs along the passenger side fender to just under the headlight. Atleast on my 93 XJ.

So, evidentally they relocated it for the newer models perhaps. (in response to Justin)

Thanks all!
