i would guess that it might have some negative effect... but nothing major. i've been stuck in a few situations where the body of my jeep has been under some pretty heavy torque and stress... and when i opened the door it was fine (except it would stick a little), but then it wouldn't close again until it was back onto fairly level ground (or atleast not in some complete-articulation situation). so all that to say... the doors probably do give it some structural rigidity, but i don't think it would hurt to go without. i've seen many pics of XJ's wheelin with no doors... but maybe they had some reinforcements underneath.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any idea WHY jeep went with a UNIBODY on the XJ? I haven't heard many positives. It seems like it makes everything more difficult. Body mods, longevity. I mean, in time some have to get frame stiffeners to add rigidity.
So if my friend with an XJ were to remove his doors, would he ever be able to put them back on and/or if any whast negative effects would it have on the unibody structure
I don't think i would reccomend it. try articulationing you xj with the hatch open...it wont close until it's level again. anyway...i rember seeing a kit somewhere that stregnthed the door jams...but that was a lot time ago.
