u-bolt yoke conversion

Has anyone had any experience with a u-bolt yoke conversion on a yj. I just ordered the kit looking for some extra insurance on my steep driveshaft angle. My 89 yj is lifted 6 inches and I had the driveshaft lengthened along with t-case drop and degree shims to fit back on. The driveshaft recently just blew out on the highway. The only damage I found was the end caps on the u-joint blew off. As a result to bad motor mounts and trans mount that I was planning on replacing in the oncoming weekend, I'm guessing that the vibrations loosened the straps. That's just a guess but the only thing I could think of. If anyone has any comments or suggestions it would be very helpful. Thanks!

with that much lift... i would surely suggest a slip yoke eliminator... but the mod in question is very simple... how much did you pay? they sell those ubolts at autozone, and you can drill out the old yoke to accept them

I drilled out the yolk in my CJ. You just have to take the straps in to match them up. The straps for my cj were bigger than the U bolts that they used so I matched up some I think they were for a full sized truck. I don't think you can do that on the front axle though when I looked at it there doesn't appear to be as much room for a nut.

I paid 50 for the kit, it came with a whole new yoke. A slip yoke eliminator is a future upgrade but right now out of my tight budget.
