Tub Removal?

Hey everyone! I've been thinking about taking the tub off and coating the frame/underside this summer and wondered how much of a pain it would be. Will I have to remove everything in the cabin? I figured removing the steering shaft, but after that I'm clueless  Let me know so I can muster up the needed commrads for this. Thanks!

Not TOO bad. Remove radiator hoses, front clip wiring harness and undo the bolts that hold the nose to the firewall and front body mount. That pretty much takes care of the nose. Steering shaft, clutch linkage or line, brake lines, fuel lines, throttle cable, 10 body mount bolts. I may be missing a few things but I'm sure you've got the idea. Just go slow when picking it off to make sure you haven't missed anything.

Thanks! I was hoping you would answer, being that you just took yours off. Next question I guess is what time frame am I looking at for this little ditty? 5 hours? 8? A day? Thanks again! :)

are you planning on just lifting it or fully removing it.... will there be a problem with wires if you plan on removing it? i'm asking because i want to do a body swap soon

Most of the wiring remains with the tub, you just have to watch for strays when separating them. I'd figure on a day to remove and another to reinstall.

is this the motorcraft i need for cj7?

I've been fighting my body swap for a while now, here are some things I noticed:

- Gas tank lines need disconnecting
- brake light wires
- emergency brake cable
- battery tray is on the body, has to come off
- some other engine parts are mounted on the body, like the vapor canister
- the wireing harness comes through on the driver side, just unplug it
- the computer comes through in the middle or so of the firewall
- all your body mounts will be frozen, get air tools or a breaker bar
- tansmission cover plate needs removing. If you don't remove the top of the transmission, you'll have to lift the heavy body pretty high in the air (it was pretty tough for four of us)

I'm going to do a write up on this pretty soon

Thanks guys! Yeah, I'm wanting to take the whole thing off.... Yeah, I figured on taking out the shifter. I'm hoping to slide it more than lift it. Sounds like a three day weekend deal. Thanks for the extra detail Terry! If you think of anything else let me know! Thanks again!

not so sure that you can slide it. I think the tires will be the highest point if you take off the shifter. It was pretty hard for four of us to lift it, make sure to take out all seats, and get another person to look around while you lift it for other stuff.

I think the muffler hangers are on the body too, so remove those

I started on my body swap about 2 years ago...

I'm getting ready to do a tub-off also...if one was sure that all hardware/accessories were disconnected underneath, would removing the wheels and dropping it down to hub height help the lifting leverages of our backs, especially at the high end to walk the tub away from the frame? LBR
