Transmission oil

Welcome to Jeepz.com.
I like Mobil 1 myself, but that's more opinion than science.

I took a quick look in my 97 TJ manual and grabbed these screenshots

Redline MT90. Most others, including the Mobil 1, is highly corrosive to the soft brass synchronizers. It WILL lead to notchy shifting and eventually a trashed transmission.

Im new to the forum, but not new to vehicle care or owning a Jeep. Ive always been a hands-on, do it yourself kinda guy, even after a really bad car accident several years ago; I just have to really watch what I can/decide to do now. But, even if I cant do it, I definitely like to keep myself apprised of useful information. Does the Mobil1 Transmission fluid and others like it, do the same thing to the Grand Cherokee? Ive had mine for almost 3 years, am the 3rd owner, and am steadily working my way through the things that either werent done by the previous owner or were not done right. I have had all the seals redone on both differentials and the transmission, but if any brand of fluid will eventually lead to a transmission failure, I will hop right on getting a flush, filter change and putting the MT90 in.

yep!! I don't know of any stores that carry it, search it and order.

Would you recommend also for a 95 yj
Yes, very much so. I recommend Redline MT90 for all the Jeep Aisin AX5 and AX15 transmissions found mostly in the Wrangler and Cherokee. Does not apply to the auto transmissions.

The high sulfur content of the Mobil 1 and other GL5 gear oils will eat the soft brass synchronizers in these transmissions. Jeep incorrectly installed and recommended GL5 and it ruins these transmissions. If your shifting becomes notchy it might not be too late. Drain your fluid and you'll likely see brass glitter in the fluid, what was once the synchronizers. Redline MT90 is a full synthetic that often improves notchy shifting, and is smooth shifting even in freezing weather.

I order my MT90 from Summit Racing as it's not available much locally.

In a pinch you can use a Synchromesh such as Penzoil but Redline is well worth the money.

Umm they are referring to fluid for manual transmissions. You need to use the correct fluid for your auto transmission.

Yes, MT90 is manual transmission oil NOT automatic trans fluid.
