blown XJ

so last nite i moved my jeep everything was fine went out this morning to get ready to go wheeling tomorrow and its stuck in first gear.. i cant figure out whats wrong. i bealive its a b10 5 speed.. my jeep is an 1989 xj with a 5 speed and a 4 liter and it has a np231 tcase

no it feels pretty normal. it just wont shift. the shifter moves around like it should but ity wont allow the transmission to come shift

I would suspect that the First gear sleeve is stuck on the synchro mesh. It's also possible that the Shift fork is binding on the shift tower housing. At this point, if you want to answer some questions, remove the console and the shifter assembly and inspect it.

i tried that already. it looked like it was fine. but i have never taken the shifter out before so i dont know what it is supposed to look like in there

If you didn't see anything in there that may interfere with the shifting, then the next best thing to do is to pull the transmission off the vehicle. 2 choices, rebuild or replace. that being a BA-10 trans, its rated as a light duty transmission. you might be better off to find an upgrade thats a better and reliable trans.

ugh i was hopeing it would be an easy fix so i could still go snow wheeling with my club tomorrow. are you sure its a ba10 transmission? where would it say on the transmission?

Nope, i'm not sure that the BA-10 is what you have. I simply took your word for it. does your Transmission look like this?

yes it does look like that.. a friend of minbe was saying a ax15 will bolt right in. is this true? i know it is alot better of a transmission then a ba10.
