Ok, I've got an '03 2.4L with AC......didn't really want it but it came with it...I figured, down the line somewhere, I could convert it to OBA. In 4 1/2 years, I can probably count on both hands the number of times I've used it (REALLY sucks down the power(?) of the 2.4).
Anyway.....just finished driving 13 hours home from the mountains to wonderful, sweltering southern Louisiana with NO AC!!!  Mudwoman and our 2 dogs were NOT happy (I wasn't feelin' real good myself ).
Have been trying to diagnose it myself (mechanically challenged but willing).....replaced the clutch relay - no help. Checked all fuses - doesn't appear to be electrical.
My question, I guess, is, do they make DIY recharge kits for the R134A coolant? Is it something I should try, or is it going to be risky to my health?!?!
It's a Jeep!! I can do without it, but with these temps we're seeing down here, it sure would be nice. But if it's the compressor??.............don't use it enough to warrant the expense ($450 + or -).
