So as a 17 year old i cant believe much i hear from fellow school mates when its my life on the line... a kid "big jim" we call him has a f250 huge 36 in tires n lift kit... also hockey pucks in the shocks... im lookin to get bigger tires for around 100 each and also rims remember im 17 and moneys tight for me... for a quick "growth spurt" is hockey pucks safe via 99 cents each at local shop... or should i spend 69 for the "spacers" on a website.
also is it ok to put bigger tires with out a lift kit via the money thing im lookin at 29 inch any ideas cause i have no clue please help please remember the budgettttttttttt

thanks fellow jeep lovers

OK as to the lift with Hockey pucks...
Since they push the spring rest way from its seat (thus giving you lift).
The upper spring perch now relys on this new, longer bolt, through this puck to support what the taper and seat behind the spring perch used to support.

At max compression your applying allot of spring force to the upper spring perch, how much I am not sure here but four of them do hold your entire jeeps weight off the axles here. And now your going to trust a single grade eight bolt to do this?

Now you tell me is it safe?
Spend the extra money now and know its done right.

As for the tire question:
As long as you don't have tire rub it should be fine till you throw on a larger lift.

What model and year Jeep do you have?

You lost me here: "also hockey pucks in the shocks". It helps to be as descriptive as possible so we can help you out.

Yeah, go for the spacers, I can tell you that they rock for the budget minded. I've beat the hell out of mine and never had a problem. However, If you keep the same shocks you'll feel it on the trail, if it's a mall cruiser then it's probably not an issue.

If you want a lift you probably don't want 29" tires as every Jeep can run them stock, go at least for 30's and most likely larger depending on the year of the Jeep. To save money find a tire width that fits on your rims (im sure a 31X10.5 would) or buy a tire + rim deal (desert rat has 31 TSL's with black steel rims for like $600).

However, if you're just tryin to keep up with the Bocephus' I would suggest that you focus more on function and then show him up in the dirt.

I have 31x10.5 bfg a/t's sitting on my stock yj... planning on putting a 4 1/2 RE susp lift and 33 mickey thompson baja claws on this summer but i can already drive circles around anyone else from my highschool in the mud... i'm 17 too and they didn't tax my budget too bad... much cheaper than the sound system i still haven't figured out why i put in

well THANKS to outofstep im gonna get 31/10.5 mickey thompson fun country 2s and us alloy rims for about 650 and later on throw a kit on :purple: but living in a city the only competition i have in my high is another kid... my best friend who has a 2003 jeep... stock and working on but id do anything to get in some real mud not this city crap.. thanks for the help

I have 33"s Goodyear Mt,s On Atlas 15" x 12. 1 inch body lift and Rancho shocks and it still fits in the garage. No problems around town ever but if i wanted to beat it up(and i don't) i would have to raise it maybe another inch. I think the investment was $1600.00 I bought the bodylift on EBAY for $69.oo and it is the aluminum blocks, looks great with all the chrome.

how much to install the lift kit and do i just go to any old garage?:???:

I installed the lift kit myself. I took a floor jack and placed it under the body on one Side. Broke loose the body bolts. But you should know that being it was a 98 and i used to drive it in the winter a few of the bolts were rusted to the point they snapped but thats OK just make sure you have a breaker Bar. And the new kit comes with new bolts. I had a hard time finding the one bolt that was hidden up over the top of the rear exhaust but once you find it no biggie. There was one in the front by the bumper. You should reuse the original rubber spacers the the Jeep came with and that will give you an extra half inch. Also note that when you use a body lift you are moving the body closer to the engine and i had to cut away the bottom part of the fan shroud because the fan was hitting. Jig saw and tin snips are what you need here. It took me and a friend maybe 3 hours. Actually it took me longer to put fender extensions on this weekend so its not that hard a job. Good luck.

DO NOT break off your bodymount bolts with a breaker bar. I broke one of mine off and the threaded half was stuck inside the body (rear passenger side corner). Had to get a torch and cut the mount out......pain in the a$$! If they seem stuck at all, spray all the body mounts first with something to loosen the rust (we used brake cleaner). After breaking one off, we sprayed the rest of the mounts every second day for a week and each day hit the end of all the bolts with an air hammer to loosen everything up. After that they all came out with no problems. If you look around, most bodylift kits will come with brackets to reposition your radiator so you won't have to cut the shroud.

Use PB Blaster, it's the best around. Good to soak all the bolts for several days prior.
