Tire size questions

Im fairly new to all this so I am prone to asking stupid questions.
I have a 08 JK. I'm not gonna be rock crawlin, mainly mud and sand. My question is: I have stock 255/75R17's on it, what is the largest tire (width & height) I can mount using the stock wheels and without lifting (or w/ minimal lifting). I am going to be doing this in phases and I have to get these street tires off!

I would say you could up size at least one tire size. I think those are the metric equivilant to a 31" tall tire, I think you could easily run a equivilant to a 32, heck a 33 if you don't go off road.

Put in a small lift and run 285's metric = 33"s
You should get a oil pan skid plate.
and do something with the plastic box near the frame.
