Tire size on a YJ

Ok, I know that this has been asked before but I forgot what was said, so I'm gonna ask it again. I have a 95 YJ that I am planning on putting MT BAJA Claw Radials on. I would like to run 33x12.50 or 31x10.50 but I am not sure what type of suspension work I need to do to fit them. I have stock suspension right now. Also I wanted to know if i should go with 15x8" rims or 15x10"?

I went with the Rough Country 3.5" Suspension Lift and added 31" Baja Claw and it made a good clean looking and great preforming trail ride it loked something like this!

Loved the lift and it was a good set op for the kind of trail riding I do. tug

Go with the 8" wide rim for either tire size, this will keep the bead out of harms way and allow you to air down with less risk of running the tire off the bead.

2.5" lift for the 31" tires, and a 4"+ lift for the 33" tires. By '+' I mean either a 1" body lift, TJ fender flares, or trimmed stock flares cuz you'll need just a little more tire clearance.

Most lift kits will have a recommended max tire size. Here's a pic of my YJ with 32x11.50x15's and a 3 1/2" suspension lift:

TWISTED...

Are those 32x11.50's on a 7 inch wide rim? If so, how many spacers did you use to adjust the steering stops?

Thanks.

I've got the 32x11.5 on stock 15x7 rims, no adjustment to the steering stops. I just stop turning when the tires hit the leaf springs

I just backed the stops out, put a couple grade 8 washers on each one, and I'm good to go. My turning radius is wider now, but still much better than most vehicles. Try 2, add or remove as needed, it literally only takes 10 minutes if that!

Oh, and yes, they're on a factory 7" rim. No rubbing in turns or at full flex. No need for extended flares and no extended axle bump stops (I left the ones with the lift kit off). The tires are supposed to be on a minimum 8" rim, but they're fine on the 7", you just have to keep them rotated and maintain proper pressure (like you should anyhow). As a result, my tires are nearly 33" tall.

Twisted,

Thank you. And thank you for adding that part about leaving the bump stop extenders from the kit off. I wondered about that, but was never sure. I probably would've installed them just in case. You've been most helpful.

Make sure your brake lines can handle the extra articulation, it would be a real bummer to break one on the trail! I just used the extensions that came with the kit. They work, but the lines are pretty maxxed out when she's flexed out. It would be better to get the extended lines if you can.

33's fit on my YJ with a 2.5 inch susp. lift, one inch body lift and tj flares. NO rubbing.
