Wondering what is the widest tire i can fit on my stock 96 xj rims? I just bought a 4in lift kit. I need wider tires. I was thinking of going with an 11.5 width ... please let me know if they will fit stock rims. thanks

Some stock XJ rims are 7" and some are 6". You'll be fine with the 11.5" wide tire on 7" rims.

I currently run four 33x12.5" TSL Radials and four 32"x11.5" TSL/SX, all on stock 7" wide rims with no problems. The bias 32"x11.5" are actually tighter on the 7" rim than the 12.5" radials.

You are going to have issues with the front tires rubbing on the lower control arms at less-than full lock. Consider wheel spacers if you want to stick with stock rims. You can live with the 11.5" on 7" rims with no spacers, but it'll limit your turning radius.

cheap yj stuff

Have you considered a 31x10.50x15 tire size? You won't have nearly any issues with that size and stepping up to a 32" will only net you another 1/2 inch of ground clearance. You may have to adjust your steering stops slightly, but that's it.

Even with 4" of lift, the 32's will probably rub the wheel wells when offroading, the steering issue as mentioned above would be more severe, and anything bigger than 31" may have you wanting/needing to change the gear ratio in your axles as the performance will be more severely effected.
