timing issues

i have a82 j10 with all the junk removed when i got it i couldnt get the distributor and carb to work together i have tryed every outlet and manfold it is a 258 six with the same carb help i want to drive it i know its a head scratcher

littlte more detail was dist shaft removed or anything

no not that i knowof but i checked it and its in time not 180 out it was this way when i bought it i can pull back the dist and start it then move it back up manuallyand it sound good

should have a fuel volum screw on right side of carb on the back bottom of base turn it allway in than back it out about 2 1/2 turns get it running than adjust timming what I had to do to mine ,also hows the idle high /low idle screw is on left rear of carb along with the linkage

Check to make sure the mechanical advance is not stuck on full advance
