ok, kids jeep died and we suspect the fuel pump. so i pour some gas in the manifold and it runs further supporting this theory BUT as we are sitting around drinking some beer and talking stupid we decide that he should just strap my old 2150 on the beast and be happy ! beer buddy one says that wont work. beer buddy two says it would. bb2 says if it runs with a dixie cup of gas put in it would handle a carb as well. bb1 says no way. ( bb3 and bb4 are laughing and wondering why we have been on this subject four an hour ) SO not taking issue as to the WHY of it. but just to the HOW of it. would a 4.o mpi engine run ok with a carb spliced on it ?????

It'd probably be quicker and easier to throw a new fuel pump and filters in there.

hey folks try this 1st remove the fuel line at the fuel filter, and for safety reasons place an empty 20oz soda bottle on the fuel line, then spin the engine over a few rounds,if your fuel pump is ok there should be gas in the bottle, but if theres no gas its more than likely your fuel pump

It's been done numerous times EXCEPT keep in mind there is no spot on the 4.0L motor to put a mechanical fuel pump. I would first swap the fuel pump relay.

Putting a carb & intake manifold (if they make one) on would be the easy part.

Figuring out what to do with all the wires & hoses would not.

I believe also, that it COULD work.

But.........

If................... you're lucky enough the carb fits the intake........:???:
what about...... the existing fuel rail and injectors......:???:
you'd STILL...... need a fuel pump......probably external electric......:-|
how to............ hook up said pump hoses into existing fuel tank.....:(
what about...... computer and all the different sensors......sure, fuel system is out of the picture, but......what about the ignition electrical?:(

I know what you're saying. You're just asking IF it would work, and HOW. So, ya, with enough time, patience, and money, I'm positive it could work.

But why?????

ya its all just beer talk at the end of a long day ! even I the notorious cobbler would'nt actually do this, but it was a heated topic for a while on the" what if " scale. LOL. kids going to use his Christmas bonus to put a new sender and pump in the tank. ( his $ my labor as usuall !)thanks for weighing in !

I would still bypass the relay. That's what died on mine and the pump won't run w/o it!
