I have a 90 yj rhd that had to replace the lower seal on the streering box when attempting to re-install it on the frame I some how damaged the worm gear piston, the inside lip broke loose. snce this is a rhd the streering box is mounted inside what is normally called the passenger side of the frame local parts stores don't sell this box. My question is, are the worm gears inside inter-changeable.

Personnaly, i have never opened up a RHD steering gearbox to know what's interchangable on the LHD steering boxes. I would assume that it might be possible since the only difference is the housing design for mounting reasons but i could be wrong.

I found the steerbox at a great company called inland truck parts who actually ordered it for me. In 24 hours I went to pick it up, from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. I made the install. The reason it took that long, I had to use some hardware washers threaded rod and nuts and lock washers to hold the new box to the frame the outer side had rusted cracked and chipped away during the removal process I also had to use cutting wheels and grinders and drill out broken mounting bolts. I,m going to replace the tie rod and do a quick oil change and replace the spark plugs this should made the ride a lot better.
