Hey all I gots a question for ya. I have a '94 YJ Wrangler 4L and I'm wanting to add some nice big treaded tires. I was looking around the reader's rides and I saw a dude with 33-13.5" super swamper Ltbs and they looked sweet. I'm not going to be doing a whole heck of a lot of off roading, mostly city stuff. So I'm wondering if I'm dreaming about getting those or if they arent that bad of full time road tires. Anyone that can help me out would surely be appreciated. And if anyone has suggestions for tires please post 'em. Peace

Hey Bounty....

if your goin to be on the street u might try boggers or TSL SX first

Any feeling on the interco trxus vs. BFG mud terrain? I read a review of the trxus tires that made them sound heaven sent!

LTB, SX, Boggers, they are all bias-ply tires and you don't want those on a rig used primarily on the street. They flat-spot after sitting a while, and are nearly impossible to balance. You'll likely want something that won't beat you up on the road. If you like aggressive, Swamper TSL Radials and SSR both ride great on the street, and are easier to balance. The SSR is siped for better wet traction. Both will wear faster than BFG's due to softer rubber compound. The LTB is softest of them all, and should be reserved for the trailer queens unless you like buying tires often.

Check out the BFG MT and AT, you'll get 50K+ miles out of them, and decent traction on and off road.

I run two sets of tires, aggressive soft rubber compound tire offroad, and something cheap onroad. I run BFG MT's onroad right now, picked up a used set of four 32" for $50. I was running Swamper Radials offroad, but sold them to go bigger.

My next set will probably be the Special Duty Super Swamper in the 34"x9.5" flavor, a whopping 27/32" tread depth

If you spend alot of time on the street, I will agree with Bounty Hunter - DEFINATELY stick with a radial tire! You WILL live to regret a Bias ply on a daily driver.

a review of the trxus line of tires from the people that make super swampers...

seems like a pretty decent all around tire. i'm tempted to buy it just for the snow performance. winters get pretty harsh here in the mountains of central pennsylvania.

I guess I could go for the BFG Mud Terrains too, although I dont' think they have the siping, or the center channel that's good for snow and wet traction...two of my biggest concerns.

If you're looking for an excellent handling aggressive looking tire, you might want to look into the Yokohama Geolander Mudterrains. They handle excellent on the street in wet or dry and are very good off road. I just got new tires a month ago. I had the Geolander mudterrains and this time I went with the all terrains because these are going to be my winter only tires. The mudterrains lasted me close to three years. They're quiet too if you don't like all the noise when you're driving. A mudterrain tire won't handle as good as an allterrain tire in the snow if thats what you're looking for...too many large flat spots on a mudterrain tire. You can sort of see what the Geolander mudterrains look like in my picture but it's kind of hard to make out.

Being that those have a directional tread design what do you carry as a spare? Right side or left side, and how do you rotate them. That's what I like about those TrXus tires in that they're not directional. Anyone every run Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radials? Again their directional, but pretty beefy looking and not bias ply.

I just use a different kind of tire for a spare since I hardly ever have to use it. As for rotating the tires, you just rotate them front to back keeping them on the same side of the vehicle. Oh ya, if you do decide to go with Interco, don't ever get the Thornbirds. I used to have them and they're garbage. They're like giant slicks that are usless off road and have no traction on wet pavement. Although if you like a lot of noise, they're comparable to the bogger...they're very loud...sounds like an airplane driving down the street.
