Stock shocks with a lift?

RE: Sorry

Just curious...I have a 93 Grand Cherokee with a 3" lift and my buddy's got some new Edelbrock IAS' but they are for a stock height jeep that he wants to get rid of. What would happen if I put them on? My shocks are shot and need new ones.

RE: Sorry

I would get different shocks. The will "top out" (try to extend too far) if you use the original length ones.

That will cause them to be destroyed quite quickly...expecially if you go off road at all.

By the way, welcome to JEEPZ!!!!

I don't think they will be damaged at full extension.. most coil spring setups are limited only by the shocks.... there are no clips on the top to retain the springs. You will loste quite a bit of flex but if this is a temporary measure you would be fine...

How do I burn ALL the fuel in the cyls?

They are too short. Don't waste your money or your time. 3" too short would leave you bottoming them out even during normal driving.

You'd be better served running your worn shocks until you can afford a new set that are of correct length, or buy a set of inexpensive replacements of the correct length.

Some good deals here:

The DT 3000 would be a good replacement for $150 shipped ;)

You should definatly put some clips or something up there to retain them   . I've seen many a vehicle without any type of clip loose their springs....and it is not a pretty sight!!

Shocks should not be used to limit travel....EVER

He's right, they only have clips at the bottom, but when my XJ was stock, and also now in lifted form the shocks do not limit travel, the control arms do.

RE: distribuer out of synch?

Ya, I realize that. But, one of the things I was trying to say is that if you plan to do any wheeling with the vehicle, I would definatly put some type of clips on the top.

the stock shocks might also limit the travel, but the should not. Especially if you're planning to upgrade/lift it anyways, you should get some shocks that don't limit the travel in anyways
