Both ways, I prefer an auto and high stall in my drag car, but a stick in my jeep . An auto builds a lot of heat idling on rocks at low speed. This adds to cooling problems on an already hot engine swap. You can push start a stick. Sometimes you are in a position that if you push in the clutch you could flip or roll over. If you need a high stall convertor to get the rpms you need this is more heat to the radiator. A stick is a variable stall , wind it up and dump it if you want. An nv4500 is great , a granny low for crawling, and an overdrive for highway. When I install mine I will take pics and keep you posted if you are interested.
