Starting

I have 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it starts up in the moning on the first try, but if I try starting the 2nd time it take several trys and pumping the accelerator pedal and it finally starts. Help

What motor?
Carburetor or Fuel injected?
Electric fuel pump?
If electric fuel pump can you hear it run when you turn the key to the on position with out starting it?

its fuel injected. can;t hear the fuel pump, its a 97 so its in the tank and insulated from the cabin pretty well.

It has fuel injection and electric fuel pump and I have replaced the intank fuel pump. Yes you can hear it running. thanks
