OK I had a squeak and it quit now at 50 mph up I have this fast constant vibration. Not reall violent or anything but it is new. Crawled under there to look around and the rear drive line seems to have a bit more slack in it than I remember. U Joints seem tight, seems to be in the rear of the transfer case. How much slack is normal? Aint this some crap you get money saved up for your lift and bang a new problem. Tug[addsig]

I had a similar vibration that was cause by the bushing that the driveshaft slips on being old and worn out. If your going to get a lift it sounds like a great time to upgrade to a sye and a new drive shaft. Other wise you can buy that bushing and replace it. This method does however require a special tool, that I was able to use because I used to work at a dealership and made friends with one of the techs who installed said bushing. The tail housing on the t-case does have to come off also, and while your at it don't forget a new seal. [addsig]

what do you mean by "slack"?... if you can move the driveshaft, you've probably got a bad Ujoint... or maybe a bad bearing... lets hope that it is nothing worse than a ujoint.. if you got squeaks.. its probably a ujoint if you are now getting vibrations.. same thign happened to me recently[addsig]

U Joint was my first guess and I to hope your are correct. Yes I have free turn in the drive shaft. How much is normal? I will have it on the rack tomorow so then we will get the answer and hope the repair. Any upgrade worth the money in u joints if that is what it is? Thanks Tug[addsig]

you are alright if there is a very small amount of rotation there... but... make sure that if the driveshaft gets a little rotation, that the pinion and the output of the Tcase get that rotation as well... if you can rotate one part, and not another, then that would probably show for a bad ujoint, the entire line should rotate in unison[addsig]

hi everyone, been gone awhile. i had a problem recently and i pulled the drive shaft. i checked the u joints before i pulled it and it seemed fine. after i had it out i took the joints out and under one of my caps the needle bearings were dust. replaced the joints and even had the shaft balanced[not to bad on the wallet 35.00] all set now,but if i hadnt pulled the joints apart i would have thought they were fine and id still be trying other ideas.[addsig]

Just started this crap a couple of days ago! So recap it has what seems to be a bad drive line vibration at 50 mph and it is not the universal joints or at least dont seem to be pulled them and inspected today. I do have a minor leak of ATF from rear of transfercase, but it has a new seal as of a couple of months ago. The viberation seems to be getting a little worse but once I slow down it seems fine. Arrrrrr! Any new ideas? OH yea the squeak is back! Tug

not sure if this is safe on the jeep or not.. but its a suggestion... with your driveshaft out, cover the Tcase output with a cloth, or something to catch fluid, and lay down there.. have someone drive it up to a 50 mph speed... if you don't hear anything, its probably something from the shaft to the wheels... or... get it up on jack stands... and get it spinnin, listen for what it is... that was the method i used when i found my bad joints[addsig]

I had a vibration and I had the drive shaft balanced. 45.00 and it is gone now. ( the vibration is gone not the drive shaft)[addsig]
