Sputz and Spurts after restarting

I have a 1998 sport 2.5L 4 clylinder 2dr. it starts great in the morning and runs great... but if you stop at a store or something then get back into it, the engine starts fine, so you start to pull out into traffic and then engine feels like it boggs down and loses power, almost like you put the choke on. I know the engine light stays on all the time and as far as I know it has all its emission sensors intact. Some of the things I have done are to replace the fuel pump in the tank and replace the fuel injectors. Im thinking one of the sensors is bad IMHO, but how would you test them or what would you do or replace next ?.

You can swing into an auto parts store and they'll usually scan the codes for free.

Or, try this:
Ignition off, push and hold the odometer reset button.
Turn key to run (not start).
Turn key off.
Release odometer reset button.
Look in odometer window for any trouble codes.

If you gauges sweep and the odometer does a count like 000000 1111111, etc, you released the odometer reset button too soon.

Thanks Bounty Hunter
That was as easy as saying "Jihad" lol. I ran the code test and it came back with the number 2.3 in the display. Is there any code reference chart on this web site or does somebody know what 2.3 means ? or what part of the engine it points to.

So, apparently the 2.3 reading I got off my Cherokee was really just the Cherokee's evaluation of my IQ. I stopped by a shop and had someone run a diagnostic computer on it so that I could get another code. The codes it sent were: P0141 - P0135 - P0138. The guy also told me that it said that my alternator wasn't putting out the correct voltage, but I have never had any problems with it cranking nor have I had battery problems. I understand that this year model [98] had two oxygen sensors, mine only has one. The previous owners removed the catalytic converter so the oxygen sensor that is located here is also gone. I'm really baffled by the whole thing because although I have no trouble cranking it and the compression is good, it has lousy gas mileage. At this point, I've got the battery disconnected in order to reset the computer. Now, what do I do?
