Ok I hit 31* today so I'm out in the garage bolting up the lift. It came apart easy and went right together except the centering pins on the new springs don't fit in the holes on the axle. What should I do grind the pins or drill the axle? If I drill the axle does anyone know the size of the pins. Its Rough Country 3" lift.

If this is a new kit, check your instructions. I remember reading about drilling the axle perches in there. It's 9/16".

here is the link to the instructions=> http://rough.roughcountry.com/catalog_download.htm

Nothing wrong with the larger centering pins, they're stronger than the stock pins. I just ground down the heads of the centering pins, didn't take much, maybe 1/16" overall diameter reduction. You could do either, but grinding the heads was easiest for me.

Check to see if they gave you 2 sizes first. I started drilling out my holes but after the second one found that the AAL kit came with 2 sized pins.

RE: drive train problem

Thanks Gang for the quick responses.

Nitedog, thanks for that link. My instructions must be old they skip that.

Twisted, George Orwell is a british author from the 40's or so I don't know much about him but came across that quote and liked it myself.

I opted to diassemble the pin from the spring and turn down the pin on a lathe in case I ever wanted to go back to the origional springs so I wouldn't have that extra 1/16" slop. I guess you could always machine a bushing if you decide to go back to the origional springs. Just my .02 cents. Frank

You should use the largest pin size you can. I have seen those pins break many times. It will serve you better in the long run to drill the perch. The axle will walk back and forth on the spring if the pin ever breaks. That's not cool.

Is it possible to swap the stock pins for the new ones?
Yes, and the Napa here carries two sizes. The larger of the two barely fit through my springs, and I had to grind the head down slightly. The smaller ones I had in had bent and one broke. They were both S shaped when I took them out.

BTW...use a c-clamp to hold the springs together if you ever decide to take that pin out and swap it for another one. Otherwise, you will never get them all back together and lined up.
