Speedometer jumping

My speedometer need bounces back and forth - no idea as to what my speed is. Any ideas.

It's Best to replace it.

The needle is jumping because your cable is (probably) fryed inside the cable casing, and lubing it will do nothing really. Its hanging on by a thread. A new cable is inexpensive and easy to replace, just unscrew it from the speedo gauge, trace it back to the transmission, unscrew it there and screw the new one in. good luck

Fix it quick this cable issue can fry your speedomter innards too, as I recently found out dammit

speedometer cables; it is easy enough IF you have a cable connected to the speedometer. the electric one can be repaired also. if its the CABLE type, unscrew the cable from the transmission - right away ! remove the inner cable and lube it ( the proper cable might be hard to find). don't pull too hard on the inner cable as it might come out of the speedometer end. good luck and let us know. vin

To open up the speedometer for inspection I just pried back the face edge back with a screwdriver.

removing speedometer cables from the cable housing: the original cable will usually come out from the trans. end. if the housing has been replaced, the cable may come out from the speedometer end. in any event, remove the cable frequently and oil it ( there are some greases that are acceptable). cheers - vin
