Guys,
I recently bought an '89 YJ with a brand new 2.5L 4cyl. motor. The only two problems with it are the small exaust leak somewhere before the cat, and the bearing at the bottom of the steering column.

For the exaust, I was wondering what are my choices for a better intake and exaust. Has anyone here tried opening up the stock airbox a little?? What is a good exaust to use? My pet peeve is that I don't want my exaust to sound like a bunch of pissed off bumble bees in a coffee can.

As for the steering column, my YJ does not have power steering, and I was wondering if anyone knows how to replace the bearing in the bottom of the column? Also, where do I get the bearing? Thanks in advance for all your help.

Don't bother replacing the bearing. It is a real bitch. Your best bet is to replace the unit. I've seen them around for $159-$179. That's what I did on by '90 because I had the same problem. I forgot where I bought it, but a lot of places on the net have them now. Check the steering column as well. The u-joint there always has slop, and that is an expensive($129+) item unless you get it at a junk yard. You must pull the steering wheel to swap it, and while you're there replace the upper and lower bearings in the column. The whole job is about 4 hours and pretty simple.

Are you saying to replace the steering columm?? I was a little unclear. Thanks for your help.
