Soft top question, 04 Wrangler Rubicon

I Just picked up this Jeep and had a question. It's has both tops hard & soft. The hard top is on and the soft top (roof fabric only) & bows are mounted inside. I want to take the soft top & bows out. The bows and fabric are really tight, and under a sort of notched area in the back (inside) corners of the hard top. So mush so I can't budge, lift or move the bows. Do I need to remove the hard top just to free up enough space to remove the soft top & bows?

Removing the top will give you alot more room to access and make things alot easier.

I figured that, but, can you get the soft top out without removing the hard top?Anyone?

I don't thing the bow will fit. When I.placed the soft top frame back in it was a pain even with the top completely off. Unless u can get the frame to fit out the rear if the jeep but I don't think it will with out cutting it into pieces

I bought my 04 with the dual tops also and was told by the dealer that I'd have to remove the hard top to take out the soft. That is the way I did it. I removed the hard top, installed the soft, sold the hard top and never looked back.

Oookay... hoped it would be easier.. Hard top gonna come off then. Guess I'll also do a trial fit & run with the soft top & metal half doors while I'm at it. Thanks everybody!

where you at? lots of jeep guys in the super cold snowy regions run soft top/doors so you should be ok

All right, pulled the top off and removed the soft top for now and cruized it around a bit. Question, there's (3) torq's screw per each side. They thread into a small piece of metal that's fitted up in the side rails. On the middle and rear ones it looks like a sliding clip holds them in? They stayed put, but the front 2 (behind the front seats) dropped out? Is that normal? or am I missing something (clips?) to keep them in place?

PS: Picked up some body touch up paint from Autozone. It matches better than the factory Mopar paint that came with the jeep which is more orangey in color.
