Small Black Hoses on a 95 YJ

OK.. I am going to try and describe this the best I can.. I hope that you guys and gals can understand what I am asking:

A couple of months ago I replaced the battery in my 95 YJ. I was having serious problems with corrosion, thus a build-up of an acidic substance on and around my battery terminals.

The other day while doing some work under my hood I noticed that there was two small black hoses made of hard plastic that had been completely severed in the middle. When I crawled underneith the Jeep to inspect closer, I saw that they were very brittle in the area immediately around where they had come apart. I concluded that the acid buildup around my battery had somehow gotten onto these hoses, and corroded them so badly that they severed.

These hoses are approximately the same size as a 12 guage wire.

These hoses run from the front differential, all the way to what I figure to be the area above my transmission.

What is the best way to go about repairing/replacing these hoses?

I have been having issues lately with my 4WD not engaging, and I am assuming that this is directly related to the above described problem.

THANK YOU!

Welcome and I am sorry to say you are experenceing Vacuume or how ever you spell it hose problems. The front Differential is engauged and disengauged buy vacuume. What you will need to do is go to the auto parts store and take a piece of the busted hose and ask for some vaccume line that size of the brittle line and some soft rubber vaccume line just big enough to slide it into tightly and replace the line. You can use a softer rubber line to push the more hard brittle type of line into on both ends rater like a telescope thing. Hard to say what would be so easy to show you.

There are better ways and I will be glad to explain the vaccume bypass Cable posi lock system if it comes down to it. But for right now less just get your vaccume line up and running again.

If I have completely confused you I am sorry and will try again to help. Just let me know. tug

Yep, those two lines engage the passenger side front axle when the transfer case is put in 4wd. They lead to a switch on the top of the transfer case.
This may help you:

Just out of curiosity, but that might be the vent line for the front "differential." and his 4x4 problem might be seperate. I only say this cause he stated that it comes from the differential and not the 4x4 acuator. But other than that I tend to agree!

Probably meant axle when 'differential' was used. It's the vacuum to engage the pass. side axle shaft.

Thanks for the help all.. this does not sound like that bad of a problem all of a sudden.

I will keep you guys updated as to when/how I fix it.

THANKS AGAIN!
