well i ran into a problem today.....i was trying to take off my skid plate and all the bolts except one just spin in place. i figure this is because the treaded insert has come lose inside the fram...prolly caused by the last idot mechancic who put the bolts in too tigh and spun em...anyway how can i fix this? i managed to beat the skidplate off with a BFH but need a remedy. shoul i weild the skid plate to the frame and weild some studs on there? thanks all!

i would weld studs on the frame and bolt the skid plate up like that, if you have a t-case drop that would probably work even better, take a piece of steal and weld the studs on to that and weld the whole thing to the frame. then bolt up the skid plate....

you can cut out where the insert should be... weld a nut to a plate of metal, and weld that plate to the frame, with the nut inside the frame

I had the same problem! I used a pry-bar and forced the skid plate tight, then took a standard socket wrench and started to loosen the bolt carefully. Seemed to work. If that doesn't work, I'd go with Snitty's idea. My .02

Y'all are doing better than I did, I was trying to take it off and couldn't even get 1 bolt out. I just gave up.

thanks guys...excellent ideas!!! i think i will incorporate my t-case drop into the set-up....on another note i just got done installing my AA STE kit...only hard part was the snap-rings and the pump line kept falling out but she is together now!!

even with a 9 inch and 3 inch lift spring sprung over? i was hoping i wouldnt have to use the t-case drop but now that i have the bolt problem i am not too sure.

Re: looking for a wheeling budy

if you have the sye and a cv shaft, you should never need a TC drop

Don't those snap rings suck! On the plus side I got to buy a new tool to get mine off. One of them comes right off, I think it is the one that holds the bearing assembly on that was a PITA!

JPS- yeah that snap ring that holds the chain gear assembly on was a PITA to get on and off..and i had a pair of snap-ring pliers too..

Snitty- sounds good. i am going to go with your idea of weilding some nuts to a peice of plat steel..its a very good idea.
