Sirius Satellite radio now for GM !

I have been looking for a XM upgrade to my 05 Silverado for a few months and the best deal I found for an intergrated system that worked with my factory radio and controls was an XM kit for around $365 plus install.

I could also buy a XM ready factory take out in mint condition for $150 but then I would have to have it unlocked at the dealer or at least pay someone to unlock it first.

I was at Circuit City today and found that Sirius now has a GM compatable kit for $99 on sale for $79 and they install it for around $70.

The lady at Circuit City said the new unit has only been out for about 1 month.

They just installed one yesterday on an 04 Tahoe and everthing works like it was a factory XM option. All of the steering wheel and factory radio controls and displays function with this module kit. The only thing that is mounted outside the dash is the small antenna and 1.5" square.

I grabbed it up and am having it installed next week. I am going to end up with satellite radio installed in an intergrated factory-like manner for $150 turn key.

I'm pretty happy right now..... smile.gif smile.gif

XM radio was great until I decided to quit.

Still getting hassled by them. No customer service agent speaks fluent english even though they have seeming american names (Harry Smith, Elizabeth Jones, Or similar) but heavy Indian (continent of) accents.
I never agreed to annual renewal and even called up two months prior to end of contract to cancel.

It ruined my tasted for any national radio network...

IMHO...

I have read that Sirius has been gaining on XM, but I hope to have a good experiance. My friend has had Sirius for 6 months and hasn't had any problems...so far..

Funny this thread shoud surface tonight...

I spent 4 hours trying to get XM to work on my factory radio (The free trial expired a while ago). The traffic channel alone makes it worthwhile, but not having to change stations as I cross state lines during my commute is nice too. There is about a 10-15 minute period where they all sound crappy for lack of signal strength so I figured I'd give the XM a shot.

Just like cewtwo said, there CS is absolutley horrendous. If it's not the automated voice recognition system, it's "Johnny" (yeah right) in India that speaks with a strong, difficult to decipher accent who knows nothing about anything except how to read from a prepared answer.

It still doesn't work and I'm calling tomorrow for a refund if one more attempt at programming the stock head unit fails.

I wish I had the option to use Sirius with the factory unit :(

It's not just XM. I was transferred to India while tracking a FedEx package and last week my wife had the same when calling Bellsouth...our local telephone company.
Customer service is dead.

Thats what I meant TC, if you have a 2003 or newer GM that had a radio capable of satillite radio, you can now get this Sirius unit that makes your factory radio work with Sirius and all of the controls and features on your factory GM radio that were meant to function with XM will work the same way with Sirius. Nothing to plug into the cigarette lighter, no external parts like head units, no cords showing, no tuning the radio to 88.1 FM to listen.
It all functions with your factory radio.

customer service is a funny thing. my friend owns a couple of sprint PCS stores, when people come into his stores with issues about customer service from the 1-800 numbers, he tells them their best bet is to hang up and call again. sprint for instance has 2 call centers. one, located in texas (i believe? either way, in the US), where the customers are fluent in english, and probably more familiar with sprint service in general, the other is located in india, where the people generally help you from an automated system. he says if you get the one in india, might as well hang up and call again until you get the US call center.

ok, that was random, i know. but all the talk of customer service just made me think about it. whatever happened to talking to a real person? i think one of the most annoying things ever is the automated answering machines, where you have to listen to 100 lists, and press the right numbers until you talk to a real person.

for what it's worth and back on the topic of satellite radio, the times I have called Sirius Radio with questions, I have gotten an American person in New York and she told me when I called in the future to keep pressing 6 and it sends you right to the New York call center evertime.

Customer service is dead.

True dat my man!

It's no longer about the customer, it's about making numbers look good to keep stockholders happy - at all costs. People change jobs so often in big business so all they care about is making a company look good for now so they can move on and up. I see it more and more, and even with the company I work for.

Well I couldn't wait, I had it all installed today and while Short Circuit City was doing the install, I was online on my laptop doing the registration. As soon as they got the power on, I hit enter and 30 seconds later it came alive!!!
ALIVE!! ALIVE I TELL YOU!!!! I may never listen to regular radio again.... I'm hooked....:D :D :D :D :D

You will be happy with Sirius. I don't know about the customer service because I have never had a problem. I have a portable unit with the boombox. I love it. The boombox is great for camping or just sitting around having a beer. Plus Sirius carries every NFL game.

I know they claim that they are getting NASCAR for 2007, which someone said they are leaving XM for Sirius.

So far so good. I just can't believe I got a factory style intergrated system that works with my GM stereo for $79.:p :p
