I am a newbie and just bought my first jeep, a 1985 cj7. When I shfted to 4WD it didn't shift real easy and now I can't get it out of 4WD, ran out of daylight and quit. The jeep has been parked in a garage for the last few years and started but not driven regularly. Am I being overly optimistic in thinking that it might just need to be driven around to get things moving again? If not what is the easiest way to get it out of 4WD?

Welcome to Jeepz. Drive the jeep at 2-5mph, step on the clutch then attempt to shift the t.case. Do this forward and reverse. This usually gets it unstuck.

Could also be the shifter linkage. Crawl under the jeep and squirt the linkage with your favorite penetrating oil. You may have to tap it with a small hammer to get it started.
