Shackles...

My 4" stock shackles are simply too short for my military wrapped spring eyes. I want to put 5" shackles on for clearance, but most of the ones sold have a cross brace which won't work with my springs. If I want to put straight 5" side plates to replace the stock 4 inch ones, will they be unstable or is this a good setup? I didn't want to go longer because of the whole front end/caster issue associated with big shackle lifts and/or the possibility of a driveline vibration. I put the cart before the horse and had a set made (1" longer and much heavier than stock), but didn't think about that center brace thing until after the fact. anybody forsee any problem with this setup??? What have you other folks with these type of spring eyes done???

Yeah, you'll be fine. If you are really worried about it you can make a "U" shaped brace that will slip over the shackles or butt into the face of each side plate and leave enough gap to clear your wrap when you weld them on....but you aren't going too extreme on length, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Up Date on Heater Rebuild on a CJ.

Hey Copper any local Machine shop could knock you out some heavy duty shaclkes for a small cost and not have to worry about the center brace. Just a thought. tug

I've already got 'em. Don't know when the heck I'm ever going to get both a day off and dry weather at the same time to put 'em on, but I got 'em! :x
