shackle problem

Cut the bolts and pulled the factory shackles on my womans YJ. But I cant push the spring down far enough to install the 1" lift shackles.... Am I doing something wrong, does it take a big f***ing pry bar or what? Thought I was capable of doing lots of mechanical things, guess I either had a case of the stupids today or something....

JEEP PARTS FOR SALE

When ya get focused on something small, it´s often hard to think big.
The last time I did a front on a YJ, I supported the front axle, on two jack stands and the frame on two more (wanted it solid, figured to be doing some pounding). I lifted the body, high enough to take some of the stress off of the bolts, had to make a couple of adjustments, after the bolts started coming out. Greased up the new bolts, did one end of the shackle, jacked up the body/frame a little more and slid the other bolt in.
Had a little more trouble, changing the bushings on the solid mount.

Maybe we are both missing something, anybody else have any imput?

There may be an easier way. I did pick up a 5 ton floor jack, at an auction, I really love my floor jack.

When i put my 2 inches on, it just took a friend and i and a prybar to push down, also lift the frame some to take tension off.

2 things we did on different vehicles.... we put a bottle jack between the axle and frame to jack it up pretty nicely, and another thing we did was used a good long tough bar to pull the springs down

Thanks guys, I will give it another shot this weekend. You dont think I will break a spring by prying on it too hard do u?
