i was crusin through my local auto zone the other day and in the towing department i saw a shackle lift kit that gave 2 inches of lift. It said it was a universal kit for all leaf sprung automibiles. I wonder if those would work on a cherokee??? Cause there olnly like 30 bucks. So if anyine knows please tell.[addsig]

cherokees have front coils, so you'll only be able to do a lift on the REAR... but they do make coil spacers, so i guess if you nab some of them as well you could do it, but you won't be as well off as replacing the spring assemblies altogether, but if you're on a budget...[addsig]

well yeah, i know if I wanted a lift new spring packs are the way to go, and i know daystar and rustys make fine shackels, but i want the cheap way ya know, and longer shackles help a lot with articulation, so its always good to get new stronger longer ones.[addsig]

Dude I feel your pain I too am all about the want to save a buck. How ever there is no reason to short cut here. Supension is what hold up you jeep as the name implys. I have started to go this route and body lift and so on and so forth. Fact is I am still running on sagging stock springs and small tires. Not due to the fact that I want to. I just wnat to do this lift one time and right the first time.

Save your money and get a supension lift and do it right and be done with it, I have read and read where the jeepers in the know say this "Do it right Go bigger than you think you want and be done" I may not know much but I know to listen these guys and gals here. There is a bunch of hard learned lessons laying i the spare parts bins of these members here to prove what works and what don't. Good luck Tug ;-) [addsig]

Not to be contrary, but longer shackles do nothing for articulation. The articulation remains the same whether the shackles are 1" or 5". Articulation comes from the springs ability to push the axle and wheel away from the frame and down to the ground where it makes contact. That is why coil springs offer significantly more articulation for a given length then leaf packs. All shackles do is raise ride height. Unfortunately, they also cause more front to back axle movement which can cram your tire into the wheel well. The best budget lift for the xj is spacers on top of the front coils, 2" and blocks under the rear. That effectively pushes the axles down, away from the fenders to give you more clearance for larger tires. Larger tires, in turn, raise the distance from the ground to the axle giving you more ground clearance. You don't gain much at all in axle articulation, but your taking the cheap way out so there will be trade offs. For increased articulation, ground clearance, and proper steering geometry, a factory lift is the best way to go, but more expensive than $40 spacers and $14 blocks.[addsig]

I wasn't trying to be ugly, I've been offroading since 1985 and have had a ton of 4x4's from Jeep to Range Rover and in between. I don't want anyone to waste their money on something that won't get them the most bang for their buck. For 90% of the guys who go wheelin on the weekend and drive their truck to work every day, 2 or 3" and 33's at the most is all you need. 31's are plenty as long as you don't drink and drive. Alcohol tends to increase your bravery offroad.
Our Landrover group was out one day and around the bend came a guy and a girl in a TJ with the whole top ripped off, windshield smashed flat, hood, fenders smashed, the whole jeep and the two idiots completely covered in mud, the guy was so drunk in the passenger side he could hardly talk, and she was driving and was yelling at us for being on the trail. Imagine Monday morning when they went out to go to work, what a surprise.
Of course, our thought was even as smashed up as it was, the jeep was still going.........[addsig]

I wouldn't buy those shackles from the store. They are not good quality and will probably bend. I would go for an aftermarket shackle. Rusty's has one that yeilds 1.5 inches. Their quality is superior. You look at those shackles and compare them to the generic store quality shackle. Which would you run in your Jeep? I know what I would...
If you get coil spring spacers, get poly spacers, not the rubber or metal ones.
