Second Wreck...

Hey guys and gals, just depressed and needed to vent a bit. I was in another wreck in my baby, the second in 2 months. The first time I was rear ended, didn't get my Jeep back for a month and had a horrible experience with the body shop (luckily the only things that needed fixing were all cosmetic). Yesterday, I was driving down my street, not 3 blocks from my house, when some kid ran a stop sign and I ran straight into the side of his truck. Last wreck I was able to drive away from. This one I wasn't so lucky. :/ The car would start but the steering wheel wouldn't turn at all, fluid leaking everywhere. The Jeep is an '02 with 120k miles. I know it will only be official when insurance gets around to it, but would anyone venture a guess as to what this will cost? Getting the rear end fixed was 4k. Luckily the wreck was completely his fault and he had insurance.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I'm guessing new radiator, power steering setup, and probably a whole bunch of other stuff. I have no idea what it will cost, but it most likely won't be cheap.

Are you hoping to fix it, or start with a new Jeep?

Well, I'd like to fix it but I guess that's up to the insurance company, right? As far as either fixing it or calling it totaled? :/

Glad you're okay. From what I've seen come through the tow shop I work at, most likely total. Insurance companies are getting tighter on what they fix.

Man, that's tough. I don't know about all the costs but I'm glad no one was hurt and I hope everything works out.

Hard to tell about insurance companys and what they'll do. I've seen much worse fixed back. I have a friend that was in the same situation and they wanted to total his truck out. They made him a real low ball offer at first. He haggeled back and forth with them untill he got 'em to fix it. I know when you get quotes the bodyshop will end up fixing it much cheaper than what the quote is for. They make good money on insurance work. There's room to haggel with them too but you gotta be careful who you take it to. Good work ain't cheap and cheap work usually ain't good. From the pic's it looks very fixable. Hope it all works out for ya.

Thanks guys. Supposedly I should hear from Allstate today as to what they are planning on doing, I will keep you all updated.

Ok so initial estimate by the Allstate adjuster is $6102.45. He said the frame may be bent up a little bit but the body shop would have to do a tear down to find out for sure. If all goes well, it won't be totaled out. :)

I hope it goes your way. Geico was $7K into fixing my Sequoia (the first time) when they found out the frame was bent. They ended up putting $19K into it by the time I got it back, six weeks later. The buck I hit in August did the same amount of damage, but they totaled it. They probably felt they'd already put enough money in it.
