SE or Sport

Looking into buying a brand new TJ; still trying to decide between the SE or Sport. The Sport has the 4.0L engine and some features I don't want (backseat, radio) for about $3k more. The SE comes with the bare minimum in features (which I prefer) but is only available with the 2.4L. So I'm looking for opinions from those of you who have driven both the 2.4 and the 4.0. Does the 2.4 have enough oomph? And how does the new 2.4 compare to the discontinued 2.5 (including reliability, I think Chrysler has used them in some minivan for several years)? I understand the 4.0 is famous for its durability and also soon to be discontinued. Will 2004 models have the 3.7 V6 (which I've been advised to avoid)? Looking for a daily driver with occasional offroad use (nothing too extreme), general advice also appreciated. [addsig]

get the sport w/ the 4.0 and a dana 44 rear, and you will be set....unless you want to go with the rubicon... :-D :-D [addsig]

Go with the Sport, the engine upgrade is definatly worth it. A little more power never hurt lol. I have a Sharara with the 4.0 and love it. You didn't mention where your from, mountains and hills will make a difference. Also, I recomend getting the 5 speed, more control while off roading, and a more "Jeep" like feel on the highway. Hope to talk to you lots, we love new people.

If I were to buy a new Jeep I would either get the sport or bite the bullet and go Rubicon! If you are going to make payments get the most jeep you can afford to make payments on. Then ride out the factory coverage and then mod it to death. tug Welcome hope you like it here!

Thanks for the advice, leaning towards the Sport now (the Rubicon might be a bit too harsh on the wallet). What exactly is the advantage of the Dana 44 rear?[addsig]

the major advantage to the dana 44 is strength...much stronger than the usual and more common dana 35 c.......[addsig]

I agree go with the Sport. I hated my TJ 4 banger engine. [addsig]

No question, the sport. If you're spending $20k+ then just get the rubicon. Over 5 or 6 years, it's only gonna be about a $20-$50 difference per payment. You'll be happy in the end.[addsig]

If your getting a new jeep have one made with what you want in it. But go with the six and the 44 out back. Which I believe are standard on the sports[addsig]
