Scraping noise from rear

I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty with 75k miles. Have a sound coming from the rear, maybe transfer case, that sounds like metal lightly scraping. This sound comes and goes. It even happens when idling at a stop light. Happens in 2WD and 4WD. I shifted the transfer case into neutral, then back into 2WD, and it seemed to go away but then came back 10 minutes later. Don't know if that was a coincidence. Anybody have any ideas?

Well, it turns out the brake dust cap was rubbing against the rear rotor (recently had new brakes put on). The shop that did my brakes took care of it. It must have been vibrating against the rotor when I was idling...
