Does anyone have there rear tire and carrier off? i never got a 5th wheel and the one on the back is old and looks bad. will it look dumb for a wrangler not having one?

I see Wranglers around here all the time without the spare. It looks ok. I don't see why it would be a problem...go for it.

I think they look better without it, but thats just me. You take the carrier off, you lose your 3rd brake light, but oh well.

Looks aside, it would really suck if you had a flat. Stuff happens, you know, through no fault of your own. Just my humble opinion............for me, I'll keep a spare no matter what it looks like.

:agree:

I personally believe in the old rule that you have a full size spare, and with any type of locker...its a must.

Honestly if the tire is the right size, I'd just get a cover for the spare and forget it. I do like how they look without the spare on the back, but I'm kinda like these guys, I dont like the idea of not having a spare. Sure enough, the day I took off without one would be the day I got a flat.

And the funny part is I still carry my factory jack....and doesn't even reach the frigging axle any more...figure that out.

Not to hi-jack, but you can turn that little space into a handy dandy storage spot for things like T.P., tire guage, fuses and whatnots. I took an old cardboard cylinder (can't remember what it was originally) that had caps on both sides and just use the little rubber strap to hold it in place. The best part is the toilet paper is always dry! :purple:

A plastic box of wet wipes fits in between my tool box and the hiddie trunk thing.

Wet wipes are like a American express card....NEVER leave home without one

i've had mine off for a few months wife cant stand it but i think it improved the looks ... couldnt afford a full size spare with extra rim to match at the time ... didnt have factory jack wouldnt really done me much good .. extra weight to kill MPG lol

When I had the Goodrich TA K/Os, if I aired down too much the tire would pop the bead. I changed a tire or two before I realized it was the bead and nothing else.

I went up Upper Handcart trail to Webster Pass one time but ran over a deadly spike in the build up at the bog. Big hole in the sidewall. Always good to have a spare. That and OBA. I can use air to either reseat the bead now or change the tire. Always carry the spare (and a Hi-Lift). Someday You;ll need it.

Jenny Creek is a trail that runs down a creek bed. At one point, where you leave the water there is a sharp rock that got me once. With the hi-lift, we got the tire changed and headed down the trail. Around a corner and there was another Jeep the same thing had just happened to. They were using a screw jack nad piling rocks trying to lift their Jeep to change the tire. 5 - 10 minutes with our Hi-Lift and they were on their way again...

Carry the spare!

Can't yet... The Mighty YJ is not a trailer queen yet, and beadlocks are illegal on highways in Colorado...

I don't carry a spare on my Jeep either. There are only so many things you can pile in or on the back of a CJ and a 42 ain't one of them. If it gets a hole, I can plug it. If it gets ripped or slashed, then it's trashed anyway so I might as well drive on it back to the trailer.
You would be out of your mind not to carry a spare on your dd though. That dusty rim would look pretty good if it got you out of a jamb.
